Overview

Jack Reed is a Postdoctoral Researcher on the ESRC-funded Nature Recovery and Regional Development (NaRReD) project. He is affiliated with the Environment and Sustainability Institute (ESI) in Penryn and also works in the Land, Environment, Economics and Policy Institute (LEEP) in Exeter.

Jack's previous research focused on the relationships between networked spaces, young people, and nature connectedness. In particular, his work has assessed how young people construct their understandings and interpretations of nature in spaces such as TikTok, Minecraft, and Netflix. In 2023, Jack completed his PhD at the University of Edinburgh with a thesis titled "From virtual worlds to the Outward Bound Trust: A study of contemporary residential outdoor adventurous education in postdigital space". Jack's full PhD thesis may be accessed here.

In the NaRReD project, Jack's research will collaboratively engage with councils in Britain's Leading Edge (BLE). The focus of this partnership is to measure and track the impact of nature recovery on local economies and scale this up for wider learning and policy development.
